Information for Applicants
In July of 2011 we completed our transition from a PGY 2-4 to a PGY 1-4 Program. For the 2012-2013 interview season, the Cook County EM Residency will offer 16 Categorical (PGY-1) positions to start in July of 2013. We will no longer offer an Advanced PGY-2 track.
Candidates must be either a fourth year medical student in an accredited medical school or medical school graduate in an accredited post graduate training program. Please contact our residency coordinator Ms. Ethel Lee at elee2@cookcountyhhs.org for further details.
The Cook County Emergency Medicine Residency Program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service. No other applications are accepted. Fourth year U.S. medical students should contact their medical school’s Dean’s Office for more information. If you are not a fourth year U.S. medical student, then contact the organizations below for more information.

- USMLE Step 1 scores for all applicants MD and DO
- Dean’s letter
- Official Medical School Transcript
- Three letters of recommendation. At least two should consist of Standardized Letter of Recommendation (SLOR) from emergency medicine faculty. Please note: A Program Director letter is required of all candidates with previous residency training.

All completed applications will be reviewed. Since the number of applications greatly exceeds the number of interview positions, we regret that not everyone will be invited to visit our program. To improve your chances of obtaining an interview, complete your application as soon as possible.
